Description
Abelia x grandiflora ‘Radiance’, commonly known as Glossy Abelia, is a compact, evergreen to semi-evergreen shrub prized for its glossy, dark green foliage that often takes on a rich bronze or coppery tint in cooler weather. This hybrid, developed in Japan in the 1980s, is a cross between Abelia chinensis and Abelia uniflora, combining hardiness with ornamental appeal. ‘Radiance’ is distinguished by its profuse display of trumpet-shaped, fragrant, soft pink to white flowers that bloom from late spring through fall, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Its tidy, rounded growth habit and drought tolerance make it an excellent choice for low-maintenance landscapes, container gardening, and foundation plantings. Glossy Abelia ‘Radiance’ is also valued for its resistance to common pests and diseases, contributing to its popularity in ornamental horticulture. Its year-round visual interest and versatility have earned it recognition among gardeners seeking resilient and attractive shrubs for diverse garden settings.
