Description
Mangifera indica ‘Haden’ is a historically significant cultivar of the mango tree, renowned for its vibrant, colorful fruit and rich tropical flavor. Originating in Florida in the early 20th century from a seedling planted by Captain John J. Haden, this variety quickly gained popularity due to its large, oval-shaped mangoes with bright red and yellow skin and sweet, juicy flesh with a slight tartness. The ‘Haden’ mango is notable for its relatively early bearing season and its consistent production, making it a favorite among growers in subtropical climates. As a vigorous evergreen tree, it features dense, glossy green foliage and a broad canopy, providing excellent shade. The ‘Haden’ mango played a pivotal role in the development of many subsequent mango cultivars in Florida and worldwide, cementing its place as a cornerstone variety in mango breeding programs. Its combination of striking appearance, robust growth, and flavorful fruit continues to make ‘Haden’ a prized choice for both commercial production and home gardens in suitable climates.
