Description
Hosta x Sun Mouse, commonly known as Plantain Lily, is a compact, shade-loving perennial prized for its vibrant foliage and ease of care. This variety, introduced by Proven Winners, features bright chartreuse-yellow leaves with a subtle blue-green margin, creating a striking visual contrast in shade gardens or container plantings. Its dense, mounded form typically reaches about 8-10 inches tall and wide, making it ideal for small spaces or as a groundcover. Sun Mouse is notable for its exceptional heat tolerance and vigor compared to many traditional hostas, thanks to selective breeding that enhances its adaptability to warmer climates and sunnier spots, provided it receives adequate moisture. The plant produces delicate lavender flowers in mid to late summer that attract pollinators. Its origin lies in hybridization efforts focused on combining the ornamental qualities of classic hostas with improved durability and sun tolerance, making it a versatile choice for a variety of garden conditions. Sun Mouse has been recognized within the horticultural community for its outstanding garden performance and is often recommended for gardeners seeking bold color in shade gardens.
