Description
Acer palmatum ‘Okukuji Nishiki’ is a striking cultivar of Japanese Maple renowned for its vibrant variegated foliage that combines shades of green, cream, pink, and red, creating a dynamic and colorful display throughout the growing season. Originating from Japan, this deciduous small tree or large shrub typically grows to about 6-10 feet tall and wide, making it an excellent choice for accent planting, containers, or small garden spaces. The deeply lobed leaves emerge with a mix of creamy white and red hues in spring, maturing to predominantly green with pink and white variegation, before turning stunning shades of red and orange in fall. ‘Okukuji Nishiki’ thrives in partial shade with well-drained soil, appreciating protection from harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch. Its slow to moderate growth rate and moderate hardiness add to its appeal for gardeners seeking both ornamental beauty and manageable size. This cultivar is celebrated for its unique variegation and elegant form, contributing to its popularity among landscape designers and plant collectors.
