Description
Fuchsia magellanica var. gracilis ‘Versicolor’ is a slender, deciduous shrub prized for its elegant, arching branches adorned with delicate, pendulous flowers that showcase a striking bicolor palette of soft pink sepals and deep purple corollas. Native to the temperate regions of southern South America, particularly Argentina and Chile, this variety is well adapted to cooler climates and is valued for its extended blooming period from summer into fall. Known commonly as the hummingbird fuchsia, it attracts pollinators with its tubular, nectar-rich blossoms, making it a favorite in wildlife-friendly gardens. ‘Versicolor’ distinguishes itself from other fuchsias through its variegated foliage, which adds seasonal interest and texture beyond the floral display. Its versatility and graceful form have earned it recognition among garden enthusiasts for use in mixed borders, containers, and shaded garden spots, combining ornamental charm with ecological benefits.
