Perennial

Height 1 Foot

Native to North America this variety will bloom first year if started indoors. Delicate flowers in shades of reds, yellow, and white are 4 in diameter. Cut flowers in bud stage.

SOWINGPoppies do not transplant well. Seeds started indoors should be in peat pots or plant seeds directly in the garden where they are to grow. Scatter seeds on soil surface, firmly press down and keep evenly moist until first true leaves appear. Seeds need light to germinate.

THINNINGWhen plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin 12 to 15 inches apart.

GERMINATIONGerminates in 5 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

REMARKSBlooms in late spring and early summer. Late plantings bloom following spring. Poppy flowers dont shatter until theyve been pollinated. If you cut one just before it is open, sear the cut end in a flame for 10 seconds, and plunk the stem immediately into cold water, the bloom will open beautifully and last in the vase for days.
