Description
Allium ‘Summer Drummer’ is a striking ornamental onion hybrid prized for its robust, globe-shaped flower heads composed of densely packed, vibrant purple florets that bloom in mid to late summer. This cultivar is a cross between Allium ‘Summer Beauty’ and Allium ‘Drumline,’ combining the best traits of both parents: large, showy inflorescences and strong, upright stems that can reach heights of 24 to 36 inches. Its unique, spherical flower clusters not only add dramatic architectural interest to perennial borders and cottage gardens but also attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, enhancing garden biodiversity. Originating from breeding programs focused on improving ornamental alliums, ‘Summer Drummer’ is celebrated for its long-lasting blooms, deer resistance, and adaptability to a range of well-drained soils and full sun conditions. Recognized by horticultural experts for its garden performance and ornamental value, this cultivar exemplifies the enhanced vigor and visual impact achievable through modern allium hybridization.
