Description
Leucothoe axillaris ‘Bohemian Beauty’, commonly known as Portfolio Doghobble, is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its vibrant, variegated foliage and graceful arching habit. Native to the southeastern United States, this species thrives in acidic, well-drained soils typically found in woodland understories, reflecting its natural adaptation to shady, moist environments. ‘Bohemian Beauty’ is distinguished by its glossy leaves edged with creamy white margins that often blush pink in cooler weather, providing multi-seasonal interest. The plant produces delicate, drooping clusters of small, urn-shaped white flowers in spring, attracting pollinators and adding subtle ornamental appeal. Its low-maintenance nature and tolerance for shade make it an excellent choice for foundation plantings, woodland gardens, or shaded borders. Leucothoe axillaris has long been valued in horticulture for its ability to brighten shady areas with colorful foliage, and this cultivar enhances that reputation with its unique variegation and robust garden performance.
