Description
Trachelospermum asiaticum ‘Gold Brocade’, commonly known as Asiatic Star Jasmine, is a striking evergreen vine prized for its vibrant variegated foliage, which features glossy green leaves edged in bright golden-yellow. Native to East Asia, this species is widely cultivated in gardens for its dense, attractive groundcover or as a climbing vine when supported, offering versatility in landscape design. Unlike its more common relative, Trachelospermum jasminoides, ‘Gold Brocade’ is valued primarily for its ornamental foliage rather than its fragrant white star-shaped flowers, though it does bloom occasionally. Its adaptability to various soil types and excellent drought tolerance make it ideal for low-maintenance landscaping in USDA zones 7 through 10. The plant is also appreciated for its resistance to deer and its usefulness in erosion control on slopes. Recognized for its unique and vibrant variegation, ‘Gold Brocade’ stands out in garden collections and has been highlighted by specialty nurseries such as Proven Winners and Monrovia for its ornamental appeal and reliability.
