Description
Polygonatum x biflorum ‘Prince Charming,’ commonly known as Dwarf Solomon’s Seal, is a compact and elegant perennial prized for its arching stems adorned with pairs of bell-shaped, creamy white flowers that dangle gracefully beneath the foliage. This hybrid variety, resulting from crosses within the Polygonatum genus, is valued for its tidy, dwarf stature—typically reaching 12 to 18 inches tall—making it an excellent choice for shaded garden borders, woodland gardens, and naturalized areas. Its lance-shaped, deep green leaves emerge in spring, turning a subtle yellow in fall, contributing seasonal interest. ‘Prince Charming’ thrives in moist, well-drained soils under partial to full shade, exhibiting strong resistance to deer and rabbits, which enhances its appeal in challenging garden settings. Historically, Solomon’s seal species have been used in traditional medicine and admired for their graceful form and adaptability in shade gardens. This particular cultivar has been recognized by horticultural societies for its refined habit and ornamental value, making it a favored selection for gardeners seeking an elegant, low-maintenance groundcover or underplanting option in shady landscapes.
