Description
Brassica oleracea ‘Crystal Pink’ Ornamental Kale is a striking cool-season plant valued for its vibrant, ruffled foliage that transitions to a vivid pink center as temperatures drop, providing unique color and texture in fall and winter gardens. Originating from the wild cabbage family native to coastal Europe, ornamental kales like ‘Crystal Pink’ have been selectively bred for their decorative leaves rather than edible qualities, making them popular for landscape design and container displays. This variety stands out with its crisp white outer leaves that elegantly frame the intense pink inner rosettes, creating a dramatic contrast that enhances seasonal curb appeal. Known for its cold tolerance, ‘Crystal Pink’ thrives in full sun to partial shade, requiring well-drained soil and moderate moisture. Its compact growth habit and long-lasting color make it a favored choice for winter interest in perennial borders and public gardens. Additionally, ornamental kale cultivars have been recognized for their contribution to fall and winter landscape aesthetics, reflecting horticultural advancements in breeding for ornamental foliage.
