Description
Miscanthus sinensis ‘Mystal Tiger Tail’ is a striking ornamental grass known for its upright, dense clumps of narrow, arching foliage that showcases a unique variegation pattern with green leaves prominently striped with vibrant gold or yellow margins, creating an eye-catching “tiger tail” effect. This cultivar, a selection of the widely appreciated Miscanthus sinensis species native to East Asia, combines the classic tall, graceful habit of maiden grasses with enhanced visual interest through its variegated leaves, which add texture and brightness to garden landscapes throughout the growing season. ‘Mystal Tiger Tail’ typically reaches heights of 4 to 6 feet, making it an excellent choice for use as a specimen, screen, or accent plant in mixed borders and ornamental grass gardens. Like other Miscanthus sinensis varieties, it thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and is valued for its drought tolerance and low maintenance needs. The species has a long history in horticulture, appreciated for its elegant plumes in late summer to fall, although ‘Mystal Tiger Tail’ is particularly noted for its distinctive foliage coloration that sets it apart from more common green-leafed cultivars. This cultivar has garnered attention from gardening experts for its combination of ornamental appeal and adaptability, contributing to its recommendation in landscape designs that emphasize texture and seasonal interest.
