Description
Leucophyllum candidum ‘Thunder Cloud’ (commonly known as Texas Sage) is a striking evergreen shrub native to the arid regions of Texas and northern Mexico, prized for its silvery-gray foliage and vibrant purple blooms. This cultivar stands out for its dense, compact growth habit and its ability to thrive in hot, dry conditions with minimal water, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and low-maintenance landscapes. The plant’s leaves are covered with fine, velvety hairs that give them a soft, silvery appearance, which contrasts beautifully with the abundant lavender to violet tubular flowers that typically emerge following warm weather and rainfall. Texas Sage ‘Thunder Cloud’ is valued not only for its drought tolerance and ornamental appeal but also for its resistance to pests and diseases. Historically, Leucophyllum has been a staple in southwestern U.S. gardening due to its adaptability and long blooming season during summer and fall months. This cultivar has gained recognition for its reliability and vibrant floral display, contributing to its popularity in sustainable and desert-style gardens.
