Description
Acca sellowiana ‘DownHome Harvest Tharfiona Bambina,’ commonly known as Pineapple Guava, is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its aromatic foliage and prolific production of edible fruit. Native to the highlands of southern Brazil, Uruguay, and northern Argentina, this cultivar features smaller, more abundant fruit than typical pineapple guava varieties, making it particularly desirable for home gardens and small spaces. The leaves emit a pleasant, pineapple-mint fragrance when brushed or crushed, enhancing its appeal as both a culinary and ornamental plant. Blooms are showy, with delicate white petals and prominent maroon stamens appearing in late spring to early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and hummingbirds. The fruit, resembling guava with a sweet, tangy flavor, ripens in late summer to fall and can be eaten fresh or used in jams and desserts. Renowned for its drought tolerance and adaptability to USDA hardiness zones 8-11, it thrives in well-drained soils with full sun exposure. This cultivar reflects a growing interest in edible landscaping and sustainable gardening. The Pineapple Guava has earned recognition for its dual ornamental and edible qualities, making it a favored selection among horticulturists and gardeners alike.
