Description
Acer palmatum ‘Shigitatsu Sawa’ is a striking cultivar of Japanese Maple renowned for its deeply dissected, lace-like foliage that emerges with a bright, vibrant green hue, maturing into a rich, glossy green throughout the growing season. This deciduous tree typically grows to a moderate height of 6 to 10 feet, making it an excellent choice for small gardens, patios, or as a specimen plant. Native to Japan, Japanese Maples have been cultivated for centuries for their ornamental beauty and versatility in landscape design, with ‘Shigitatsu Sawa’ prized for its finely cut leaves that provide a delicate, fern-like texture unlike many other maples. Its compact size and slow growth rate contribute to its popularity among bonsai enthusiasts and gardeners seeking an elegant, manageable tree. The cultivar is also noted for its excellent adaptability to partial shade and its tolerance of various soil types, provided they are well-drained, making it relatively low-maintenance. The graceful, cascading habit of ‘Shigitatsu Sawa’ adds a dynamic architectural element to landscape compositions, especially when planted near water features or alongside traditional Japanese garden designs. This cultivar’s refined foliage and graceful form have earned it recognition among horticulturists and garden designers for its unique aesthetic contribution to temperate gardens.
