Description
Ficus elastica ‘Melany’, commonly known as the Melany Rubber Plant, is a striking cultivar of the rubber tree native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Renowned for its large, glossy, deep green leaves with a subtle, attractive variegation or burgundy tint on new foliage, this evergreen tropical plant offers a bold architectural presence ideal for indoor displays and shaded outdoor gardens in warm climates. The Melany Rubber Plant is valued for its air-purifying qualities, ease of care, and adaptability to a variety of light conditions, thriving best in bright, indirect light with moderate watering. Originating from the species Ficus elastica, which has been cultivated since the 19th century for its latex-producing sap, this particular cultivar was developed to enhance ornamental appeal with richer leaf coloration and more compact growth habit. It has gained popularity among plant enthusiasts and interior designers for its dramatic foliage and robustness. The Melany Rubber Plant has been recognized in horticultural circles for its combination of durability and visual impact, establishing itself as a distinguished member of the popular rubber plant group.
