Description
Melaleuca (Callistemon) viminalis ‘Light Show’, commonly known as the Bottlebrush, is a striking evergreen shrub prized for its vibrant, brush-like flowers that resemble traditional bottle brushes. Native to Australia, this plant belongs to the Myrtaceae family and is renowned for its unique, cylindrical flower spikes that bloom profusely in shades of bright red with yellow tips, attracting hummingbirds and pollinators. ‘Light Show’ is a compact cultivar characterized by its dense, arching branches and narrow, lance-shaped leaves, making it an excellent choice for hedges, screens, and ornamental borders in warm climates. Its adaptability to various soil types and tolerance to drought and salt spray enhance its landscape versatility, particularly in USDA zones 9-11. The plant’s vivid flowering and extended bloom period contribute to its popularity in Southern gardens, as highlighted by Southern Living and Sunset publications, where it is celebrated for both ornamental value and low-maintenance care. This cultivar reflects the horticultural innovation typical of the Callistemon genus, combining aesthetic appeal with resilience in challenging growing conditions.
