Description
Phlox subulata, commonly known as creeping phlox or moss phlox, is a low-growing, evergreen perennial prized for its vibrant, carpet-like spring blooms and needle-like foliage. The ‘Goldi’ variety features striking golden-yellow to chartreuse foliage that provides attractive ground cover color even when not in bloom, creating a vivid contrast to its bright pink to cherry-red flowers that appear in early spring. Native to eastern and central United States, creeping phlox thrives in well-drained soils and full sun, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, slopes, borders, and erosion control. Its mat-forming habit and drought tolerance contribute to its popularity in both formal and naturalistic landscapes. The combination of colorful foliage and profuse floral display distinguishes ‘Goldi’ from traditional green-leafed cultivars, adding year-round landscape interest. This cultivar aligns with the broader genus’s reputation for easy maintenance and adaptability, making it a favorite among gardeners and landscapers seeking vibrant spring color with low upkeep.
