Description
Pyrus calleryana ‘Chanticleer’, commonly known as the Chanticleer Flowering Pear, is a highly regarded ornamental tree prized for its striking early spring display of pure white blossoms that create a brilliant floral canopy before the leaves emerge. This cultivar is distinguished by its narrow, pyramidal growth habit, reaching heights of 30 to 40 feet with a dense, upright form that makes it an excellent choice for urban landscapes and tight spaces. Originating from the Callery pear species native to East Asia, ‘Chanticleer’ was selected and developed for landscape use due to its strong branch structure and resistance to common pear diseases. In autumn, the tree showcases vibrant foliage, transitioning from green to shades of orange, red, and purple, adding multi-season interest. This cultivar is widely appreciated for its tolerance to various soil types and environmental conditions, including heat, drought, and urban pollution, making it a versatile and durable landscape specimen. The Chanticleer Flowering Pear has been recognized for its ornamental value and has become a popular choice among landscapers and gardeners for its combination of beauty, adaptability, and manageable size.
