Description
Salvia nemorosa ‘Bumblesky’, commonly known as Bumblesky Garden Sage, is a compact, herbaceous perennial prized for its vibrant, deep purple-blue flower spikes that bloom profusely from late spring through summer. This cultivar is notable for its dense, upright growth habit, typically reaching 12 to 18 inches in height, making it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, and pollinator-friendly landscapes. Originating from the species Salvia nemorosa, native to central Europe and western Asia, ‘Bumblesky’ has been selectively bred to enhance its intense flower color and prolonged bloom period. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soils, exhibiting drought tolerance once established, which underscores its low-maintenance appeal. Additionally, the aromatic foliage and ability to attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds contribute to its ecological value. ‘Bumblesky’ is appreciated among gardeners for its resilience, deer resistance, and versatility in garden design, often recommended by horticultural experts such as Proven Winners and Monrovia. This Salvia cultivar embodies a fusion of ornamental beauty and functional garden performance, reflecting a rich horticultural heritage within the Lamiaceae family.
