Description
Sisyrinchium angustifolium ‘Blue Note’, commonly known as Blue-Eyed Grass, is a charming perennial native to eastern North America valued for its delicate, star-shaped, sky-blue flowers with contrasting yellow centers that bloom profusely from late spring to early summer. Despite its common name, Blue-Eyed Grass is not a true grass but a member of the Iridaceae family, featuring slender, grass-like foliage that forms attractive clumps 12 to 18 inches tall, making it ideal for naturalistic borders, rock gardens, and wildflower meadows. ‘Blue Note’ is prized for its compact habit and longer blooming period compared to species forms, as well as its adaptability to full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, combining both ornamental appeal and low maintenance. This cultivar has been recognized for its garden performance and aesthetic appeal, often recommended by reputable horticultural sources such as Proven Winners and Monrovia, contributing to its popularity in perennial plantings focused on native plant diversity and pollinator support.
