Description
Salvia (Perovskia) yangii ‘Rocketman’, commonly known as Rocketman Russian Sage, is a striking perennial renowned for its fragrant, silvery-gray foliage and vibrant violet-blue flower spikes that bloom profusely from mid to late summer into fall. This cultivar is a compact, more upright selection of the traditional Russian Sage, typically reaching about 2 to 3 feet in height, making it ideal for smaller garden spaces or as a colorful border plant. Native to the dry, rocky regions of Central Asia, Perovskia yangii was formerly classified within the Salvia genus but has since been reclassified based on genetic studies, reflecting its unique botanical heritage. ‘Rocketman’ is particularly valued for its drought tolerance, deer resistance, and ability to attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, providing both ornamental beauty and ecological benefits. Its airy, open habit and long-lasting blooms contribute to garden texture and visual interest even after the flowering season. This cultivar has gained recognition for its improved compact form and vibrant flower color, making it a favorite among landscape professionals and home gardeners alike.
