Description
Buxus hybrid ‘Buddy’ Boxwood is a compact, evergreen shrub prized for its dense, vibrant green foliage and exceptional adaptability in landscape design. This hybrid boxwood is a cross between Buxus sempervirens and Buxus microphylla, combining the best traits of both parents: the hardiness and disease resistance of B. microphylla with the classic, fine-textured leaves of B. sempervirens. ‘Buddy’ Boxwood is valued for its slow to moderate growth rate, reaching heights of about 3 to 4 feet, making it ideal for low hedges, foundation plantings, and formal borders. Its small, glossy leaves create a lush, full appearance year-round, and the plant exhibits strong tolerance to heat, humidity, and certain common boxwood diseases such as boxwood leafminer and blight, as noted by NC State Extension and Missouri Botanical Garden. Originating from breeding programs aiming to improve traditional boxwood varieties, ‘Buddy’ has gained recognition for its reliable performance in a variety of climates and landscape uses. Its combination of aesthetic appeal and resilience has made it a favored selection among gardeners and landscape professionals seeking a versatile, low-maintenance evergreen shrub.
