Description
Coleus scutellarioides ‘Dragon Heart’ from the Portfolio series is a striking ornamental foliage plant prized for its vibrant, deeply textured leaves that showcase a dramatic interplay of rich burgundy centers outlined by bright chartreuse margins. This cultivar is part of the well-known Coleus genus, native to Southeast Asia and Malaysia, historically valued for its colorful foliage rather than its flowers. ‘Dragon Heart’ demonstrates exceptional heat tolerance and thrives in both garden beds and container settings, making it a versatile choice for adding vivid color to shaded or partially shaded landscapes. Developed through modern breeding techniques focused on enhanced leaf coloration and plant vigor, this variety maintains a compact, upright growth habit, ideal for edging or mass planting. Portfolio series coleus, including ‘Dragon Heart,’ have been recognized within the horticultural industry for their reliable performance and ornamental appeal, contributing to coleus’s long-standing popularity as a dynamic, easy-care annual for temperate gardens.
