Description
Acer griseum ‘Fireburst’, commonly known as Fireburst Paperbark Maple, is a striking deciduous tree prized for its exceptional ornamental qualities. This cultivar features distinctive cinnamon-colored, exfoliating bark that peels in thin, papery layers, adding year-round interest and texture to the landscape. In spring, it produces vibrant red-orange foliage that matures to a rich bronze-green in summer, followed by brilliant fiery-red fall color, making it a standout specimen throughout multiple seasons. Native to central China, Acer griseum has been appreciated in Western gardens since the mid-20th century for its unique bark and manageable size, typically growing to 20-30 feet tall with a graceful, rounded canopy. The ‘Fireburst’ variety is noted for intensified autumn coloration compared to the species, enhancing its visual impact in mixed borders or as a focal tree. This cultivar has gained recognition among horticulturists and landscape professionals for its combination of ornamental bark, exceptional fall color, and adaptability to a range of well-drained soils in temperate climates.
