Description
Echinops gmelinii ‘Snow King’, commonly known as Snow King Globe Thistle, is a striking perennial renowned for its unique, globe-shaped, powdery white flower heads that add architectural interest to gardens and landscapes. Native to the Eurasian region, this cultivar is a robust and drought-tolerant member of the Asteraceae family, typically growing between 2 to 3 feet tall with spiny, gray-green foliage that complements its bright blooms. Unlike the more common blue-flowered globe thistles, ‘Snow King’ stands out with its pristine white blossoms, which attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies and are excellent for cutting or dried arrangements due to their long-lasting nature. Its spiny leaves and stems add textural contrast, making it a valuable addition to perennial borders, rock gardens, and xeriscapes. The cultivar has been appreciated by gardeners and horticulturists for its combination of ornamental appeal and low maintenance needs, embodying a blend of ruggedness and elegance that has made it a favored choice in sustainable gardening designs.
